I don’t really like the term “chick flicks”, but for lack of a better word, these films are excellent for a girls’ night or simply when you want to watch something equivalent to a romantic comedy or girlfriends film en francais. Pour yourself a glass of wine – and perhaps slather on a face mask – and enjoy!

Tout ce qui brille (All That Glitters)

Starring Leila Bekhti and Geraldine Nakache, this story details the friendship of two girls from a working class neighborhood outside of Paris who want the glitz and glamour of the big city.  When Lila (Bekhti) starts sleeping with a handsome, well-to-do Parisian, she weaves a web of white lies and begins to sacrifice her friends and family in order to fit in.

Prete-moi ta main (I Do)

Charlotte Gainsbourg plays a woman paid to be the faux fiancee of Luis Costa (Alain Chabat), a 40-something single man whose family wants desperately for him to settle down and get married. I love Charlotte Gainsbourg as a style icon, but many of her movies have her playing seriously disturbed or troubled characters, so I was pleasantly surprised to see her in this film as a sassy, independent, likeable character.

Hors de Prix (Priceless)

French superstars Audrey Tautou (Irene) and Gad Elmaleh (Jean) star in this light-hearted movie set in the beautiful French Riviera. Thanks to a case of mistaken identity, Jean meets the girl of his dreams – but can’t compete with her wealthy suitors. You’ll get a peek at some of the swankiest spots in the south of France while rooting for Jean to land the girl.

L’arnacoeur (Heartbreaker)

Romain Duris plays a professional heartbreaker who is hired to seduce women away from their beaus and break up their relationships. When a rich businessman hires him to break up his daughter’s (Vanessa Paradis) engagement just 10 days before the wedding, he has trouble getting her to fall for his charms.
